One of the tactics of dictators and would-be dictators is to
call things and people the exact opposite of what they actually are. Former
president Donald Trump has mastered that tactic. The mob that invaded the US
Capitol on January 6, 2021, was motivated by and filled with hate, something
the numerous videos of that event clearly show. Former president Trump says he
saw a beautiful scene of love there. The mob that day attacked the US Capitol
in an attempt to stop the Congress from completing a task the US Constitution
assigns to them to record and certify the electoral votes of the fifty states.
They were nothing short of insurrectionists attempting to circumvent the US
Constitution and render it moot. Trump calls them patriots. It is an old trick
by fascist dictators, and Trump wields it well. He is nothing short of an
American fascist. We simply must protect American democracy from Trump and his
insurrectionist followers.
