Comments on American Idiocy

There are, of course, a lot more aspects to American idiocy that the one this comment is about. I mean, this country made the moronic, deranged idiot Donald Trump president not once but twice. What more proof of idiocy do you need? But this is a comment I just wrote in my personal journal, which, mostly I don't make public.

\I find so much television advertising so offensive, so fucking stupid, that I’m starting to wonder why I watch any commercial television. I don’t watch much, sports mostly—football and baseball in season. Otherwise, what the hell is there on commercial television worth putting up with have your intelligence insulted again and again and again? The marketers know that most Americans are morons, so they pander to morons. I’m not the smartest guy in the world. I have some kinds of intelligence and don’t have others. But I’m no moron. I won’t buy into moronic images and messages. They turn me off—or worse. If you ever needed proof that Americans are morons, just look at television advertising. It insults people who aren’t morons at every turn. Commercial television isn’t much better. It’s either done on the cheap so the producers don’t have to pay writers and actors, or it’s filled with violence, which, I guess, we’re supposed to find entertaining. It’s not entertaining. It’s a violation of everything I consider holy—nonviolence and love. Oh well. There’s nothing to do but not watch it. Which, mostly, I don’t. Americans are not going to stop being morons. It’s a foundational part of our culture that intelligence is suspect. That morons know better than experts. That people who know what they’re talking about are somehow suspect. It is one of my country’s fatal flaws, but there it is, and it’s not going to change. Damn!
